Dice Crossing

This is a game level that I created using Unreal 5.0.3, Maya, Substance Painter, Adobe Audition, and Photoshop. My project was inspired by the game Sugoroku, specifically the board game version where you need to roll the dice and progress to new areas on the board. I decided it would be fun to take the idea of using dice to progress and make it into a puzzle game.

My process began with research and with putting together a board on Pinterest. I wanted to get an idea for the overall aesthetic. I knew I wanted a peaceful and mindful game, I thought it would be fitting to play with light and with water to accomplish this.

For the light, I positioned it so the player would begin in a well-lit area, and then move into the shadows before finally getting to the temple and emerging back into the light. I also thought it would add to the mystical feeling to have fog/mist around the temple that the light could filter through.

I wanted to have the player begin in an area with a lot of light and begin to move into a darker atmosphere.

Smaller dice are needed depending on the puzzle, I highlighted that for the second puzzle with these buildings and lights.

After modeling the flowers, I textured them in Substance Painter, and then made them float on the water in Unreal.

The player must solve the dice puzzle to make it to the temple. I wanted this area to be the most mystical feeling, so I made the light the most dramatic here.

In Unreal, I added trigger boxes around the gates so when the player would cross through them a sound would play.
